If you have never been to one of these events, it is a great experience. If you are a fan of these programs, if you buy Soap Opera Weekly, Soap Opera Digest or ABC Soaps, it is an opportunity that comes by rarely to meet, take photos with and get autographs from these stars.

Pleasant Beach, NJ. After the events, great way to meet other fans and have dinner at Ferrara’s right next door or head up to Jenkinson’s Boardwalk or Martell’s Tiki Bar for some cocktails.

Comedy Club to Fill Empty Lane Theater in New Dorp
by Staten Island Advance
Friday April 17, 2009, 1:39 PM
Out of layers of dust and pigeon doo, the long-shuttered, landmarked Lane Theater is slated to rise, in its Art Deco splendor, again.
A new comedy club, Uncle Vinnie’s, is set to light the marquee at 168 New Dorp Lane — and neighbors hope it will bring the “old spark” back to the neighborhood.
“It would be nice if we could start bringing businesses back to the Lane again,” said New Dorp Central Civic Association president Joseph Markowski. “The comedy club could uplift the whole neighborhood.”
That was the pitch comedy club owner Dino Ibelli brought to last week’s meeting of the civic group.
He and his brother, Jerry Ibelli, hope to create a national franchise out of their Point Pleasant comedy venue, with Staten Island’s East Shore representing the second pin on their map.
“We started doing comedy nights at our restaurant, Ferrara’s, and the thing exploded,” Ibelli told the local civic association. Uncle Vinnie’s is now poised, he said, to book such big names as Jay Leno, Pat Cooper and Andrew Dice Clay– and to host fund-raisers, 3-D movie nights for kids, roasts, soap star meet-and-greets, and open mic nights.
The plan is to offer big-name comedy shows on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with the doors to open as soon as August.
Between calls from hopeful locals (”Everybody on Staten Island thinks he’s a comedian,” said Ibelli), the club owners are now cleaning the venue that has languished since 2001.
A nightclub, the EleMent, was last to inhabit the building still known as the Lane Theatre, but it was shut down within a year of its operation, for drug and alcohol offenses.
Built in 1938, it is among only three single-screen movie houses on Staten Island, and its interior– including stepped paneling and painted, amoeba-like bursts in the ceiling– was landmarked in 1988 as one of the city’s few intact examples of 1920’s Art Deco interior design.
The theater’s landmark status, The Lane’s former owner told the Advance in 2002, had frightened off potential buyers, including catering halls, a children’s gymnasium and a church group.
Subsequent property managers said they had turned prospective tenants away as they sought just the right business for the space.
Meanwhile, the hastily closed theater deteriorated; some called it unsalvageable.
For the past six years it has sat empty, its red letters spelling “Lane” over the marquee serving only as a landmark to pedestrians finding their bearings.
While members of the civic association raised concerns about noise in the neighborhood following late-night shows, with Ibelli emphasizing in response that he will cater to a mature audience– several members of the civic association lauded the plan enthusiastically.
The club owners plan to stimulate local commerce by channeling crowds attending its shows to nearby restaurants.
And the Lane sign, that old beacon, stays.
