Born & raised in Lorain, Ohio Jason Lawhead has been described by teachers & family as a day dreamer & late bloomer. Held back in the 5th grade for those attributes was the first leap that drew Jason to comedy as a way to cope with life’s shortcomings & disappointments. Family fodder, making sports funny and his overall observation on the current state of all kinds of affairs is where Lawhead best treads. Starting out at open mic’s in Cleveland under the mentorship of legendary club owner Nick Kostis at Hilarities in early 2004 is where he started & by 2013 Jason had broke through as a full time working comic when he made a name for himself as a regular opening act for Bill Burr on both of Bill’s “Billy Bible Belt” & “Billy Red State” theater tours. By the end of 2015 Lawhead had appeared on Gotham Comedy Live twice, while also being selected as one of the top 100 comedians cast to season 9 of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. He capped the year off nearly selling out his hometown 1,400 seat Lorain Palace Theater with his dad as his opening act in his self described “night of my life”. He is a favorite & regular at some of the best clubs from NYC to Las Vegas to L.A. & all parts in between. In late 2019 Lawhead self produced his own independent comedy special titled “Pay It Backwards” shot at The Comedy Store in La Jolla, CA where he delved into how it was being the youngest of 7 children, his upcoming nuptials that were just weeks away, a range of opinions on the absurdities of how he sees the world & how the continuing struggles with becoming a better man. He just shot “Do It Again” back at his original home club Hilarites in Cleveland March of 2022 which will be set for release on You Tube in May 2022. In August 2021 Lawhead teamed up with John Browner as Co-Hosts of the Browner And Lawhead Show on San Diego’s Mightier 1090 AM ESPN sports talk radio. Constantly writing jokes, periodically watching sport, in the kitchen cooking or traveling with his wife is where Lawhead loves to be if he’s not on stage making people laugh.
